Finally Fixed Windows 10 Taskbar Not Working Problem

We have all been in a situation where in when we are in the middle of something important, our taskbar just stops responding or freezes and we don’t know what needs to be done next. While windows 10 update has give a lot of add ons to the existing system, some of the users have been facing a common problem where the Windows 10 taskbar stops working. But, there’s nothing to worry about as one can get back to work after trying one of the steps listed below to get that taskbar at the task again! 

Here are some of the solutions one can try in case the windows 10 taskbar freezes/ stops working-

Method 1- Restart the Windows Explorer 

This is one of the most widely used methods which people use to get the taskbar back on track, the success rate is also very high with the same. You just have to follow simple steps as given below- 

  • Open the Task Manager by pressing “CTRL+SHIFT+ ESC”. You may see an elongated window or a simple window. 
  • If you see a short simple window, press on “More Details”

  • Alternate method- Press Windows Key+ R to open Run window & Type “taskmgr.exe“, hit enter.

  • Now finally Task Manager open & in there Locate “Windows Explorer”.
  • Right click and choose “Restart”

Once this process this complete, you will be able to notice that taskbar has started functioning as normal.

Method 2- Check the Add-Ons Installed

It is always advisable to check the Add-Ons/ Plugins which have been installed on your taskbar. Many-a-times, we may not realize that the one which we have installed/ Pinned to the taskbar are faulty or may contain a virus. Eliminating or Uninstall them will help you resolve the issue. 

Method 3- Troubleshoot the Taskbar

Everyday windows face a lot of problems, so to defend those windows invented his own Troubleshooting tool. It helps to encounter minor problems automatically, without giving headache.

  • Go to the “Settings” of your laptop/ PC, click on the Update & security.

  • Once you reached there, left side corner you will see “Troubleshoot” click on it.
  • On that page, you need to click on “Additional Troubleshooters”.

  • A new window will pop up, select the “Windows Store Apps” and click on “Run Troubleshooter”.

Now wait for a while, it takes time. When all troubleshoot complete give your Laptop/PC restart. Hopefully, Taskbar Not working problem will be solved.

Method 4- Check for Windows Updates 

  • As always, you need to go to “Settings” of your system.
  • Once you on, Click “Update & Security” > “Windows Update” > “Check Windows Update” option.

  • Check if there is a pending update and proceed to install the latest update.

Method 5- Run a command in Powershell 

Sometimes, it may happen that your taskbar has been de-registered from your system, and to fix the issue, all you need to do is register the same again. For this, you simply have to run a command in Windows Powershell

  1. Search “PowerSheell” on windows search bar, & open up “Windows PowerShell”.

  1. Enter the command given below and press the ‘Enter Key’.

  1. After this, close the Powershell and locate the hidden files on your laptop/ PC. 
  2. Locate the path C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Local\
  3. Find a folder named TileDataLayer and “Delete” it.

Now at this point restart your computer & check whether your Taskbar is working or not. If again Windows Taskbar not working don’t forget to check new steps.

Method 6- Check the Auto-Hide Option

Sometimes, we don’t realize that the ‘auto-hide’ option of the taskbar has been switched on from the settings menu. What this option does is that the taskbar remains hidden throughout and pops up only when one hovers the mouse pointer around it. Due to this confusion, one may get afraid that the taskbar has disappeared or is not working. Don’t worry, all you have to do is follow the steps given below- 

  • As Taskbar not working, so You need to go to Windows “Settings” > “Personalization”.

  • Now go to Taskbar section on the left side.
  • Keep the switch “on” for Lock The Taskbar option.

  • Keep the switch ‘Off’ for Automatically hide the Taskbar in laptop or tablet mode. 

Method 7- Startup Apps

There are several apps that need to start when windows are starting (Booting) up to running the system or other apps smoothly. If your system starting up lots of apps at the beginning this might cause your Taskbar to freeze.

So at this point, you need to disable all startup apps or one by one to check the issue. Let’s drive you through how to do it.

  • As always open up Windows “Settings”, like opening your car engine to fix.
  • Now go to the “Apps” section.

  • A list of Startup apps will show up, which automatically startup when the computer Boots up. At this point, you can turn off all apps, or if you think any individual app is causing an issue to disable those by toggle to “Off” position.

Method 8- Check your Drivers 

Just like any other software, drivers require regular updates as well. There might be problems in operating the taskbar in case the drivers installed in your system are outdated. One must take care to install the drivers which are compatible with your audio and graphics. Method 9- Make another User Account on your Laptop/PC

One may not be comfortable using this method but it is not as complicated as it looks. But use this when you tried all methods & nothing works to revive Taskbar. All you need to do is listed below- 

  • Go to settings and open the “Accounts” section.

  • Move on to the “Family and Other Users” section.

  • Under Other Users, Click on “Add someone else to this PC” to create a new account. Now fulfill all details according to the user.

Once all done, now restart your computer or laptop. On the startup screen log in with your different newly created id. Note this is a brand new id so there will be nothing in here & completely different from your Main account. In here windows Taskbar might be working. All thought this not a permanent solution if you need the same data as the main account.
